HARDY Dedicates ACM Honors Trophy To Guy Who Wrote “Quit” On A Napkin & Put It In His Tip Jar Back In 2015 | Whiskey Riff

Country music is the lifeblood of Whiskey Riff, and we pride ourselves on standing firmly in the corner of the independent artists, and those few in the mainstream still doing it the right way. Whether it’s Waylon, Willie and legends of the past, or superstars in the making like Zach Bryan, our finger is always on the pulse of true country music. From Texas to Tennessee, Appalachia to Bakersfield, Whiskey Riff is THE unapologetic voice of the country music fan.

A RIFF on what makes the great outdoors…great.

“Country” is more than just a steel guitar. It’s a lifestyle. A mindset. A cold beer, hot grill and the great outdoors. A lifestyle so perfectly captured by the country greats of yesterday, but still alive and well today in artists who truly get it.

Whiskey Riff is that lifestyle.

The best playlists in country music…period.

On ‘Whiskey Riff Raff,’ Steve Gazibara and Wes Langeler give an unfiltered and unapologetic take on country music, life, and all the craziness that comes with it. Laugh with us. Rant with us. Drink with us.

It’s no secret that HARDY has made one helluva name for himself over the past few years.

From becoming one of the top songwriters in Nashville, writing hits like “God’s Country” by Blake Shelton, and a number of Morgan Wallen’s songs like “More Than My Hometown,” and “Sand in My Boots.”

Not to mention, the guy is on a heater himself in his solo career, with his hits like “Give Heaven Some Hell,” “One Beer,” “Unapologetically Country As Hell,” and his latest country ballad with Lainey Wilson, “Wait in the Truck.”

Although it kinda feels like HARDY just came out of nowhere and became a hitmaking machine, the man has lived the Nashville scene for quite some time now, and had to cut his teeth to make it to where he’s at today.

And at last night’s (pre-recorded) ACM Honors ceremony, he made sure to send a message to one hater in particular during his 2022 ACM Songwriter of the Year award acceptance speech.

“In 2015, I was playing a songwriter round with a tip jar on the front of the stage. Nobody that played on that stage that night had a hit, we just played original songs and we might’ve made $10 in tips.

But one person wrote ‘quit’ on a napkin, and they put it in that tip jar.

And tonight, that ‘quit’ napkin will be sitting right beside this fucker.”

You gotta love the energy from ol’ HARDY here.

He’s paid his dues, lived the grueling Nashville scene, and has become one of the top singer/songwriters in all of mainstream country music now.

His friend and co-writer, Morgan Wallen, honored him with a cover of “A Rock.”

Also, if you haven’t heard his badass murder ballad “Wait In The Truck” with Lainey Wilson, do yourself a favor…
