As part of spreading awareness to society about menstruation, and eliminating the radical hindrances during the menstruation period for Uganda women, the AV group has come forward with an upper hand offering Rs 80,000. AV Group MD, AV Anup has offered Rs 80,000 to purchase equipment including machinery for the unit to manufacture sanitary napkins for African women.

This donation is in memory of MK Soubhagyam, co-founder of Medimix and mother-in-law of AV Anoop, whose demise has been marked recently. Head of Dr. Bindu Sivasankaran Nair’s (Flowers HR Department and founder of Women Intense NFT) intervention helped the organization ‘Spirit of Hope Africa’ to get promoted for the good cause of African women.

The upliftment of women has always been a topic of discussion in every country. No nation can progress without women’s contribution. If Africa- one of the third-world countries is to progress, the advancement of women is essential. However, the women in the country are not getting proper menstrual hygiene. The practices are lacking and also the condition of children is dire. It is worth noting that according to statistics, 28% of students do not go to school during the period.

The organization- ‘Spirit of Hope Africa’ is a venture created by a young girl named Rachael, who predominantly worked to promote menstrual hygiene in Africa. Her determination and the first step to start a new organization for a good cause resulted in rest of the growth of organization. The organization led by Rachel, manufactures washable sanitary pads. The production and other works are being done by a group of women themselves. Spirit of Hope Africa is currently operating as a small unit, but Rachel’s dream is to expand it to a higher pace later.

Dr. Bindu Nair came to know about the untold story of the young girl who grew up in an orphanage and lacked menstrual hygiene in Africa. Thereafter Bindu Nair’s initiative paved the way for the girl and the rest of the natives to improve menstrual hygiene. Bindu Sivasankaran’s Women Intense NFT focuses on a project to elevate women’s artwork, earn their own income, and take women to the possibilities of blockchain. Bindu Sivasankaran, who is also Head of Flowers HR Department, is preparing workshops and training programs to introduce NFT exclusively for women.

After analyzing Rachel’s story, Dr. Bindu immediately spoke to AV Group MD AV Anup about the problem faced by the girls. It was then that AV Anup decided to join Spirit of Hope Africa. A group of women, led by Rachel, work in a sanitary napkin manufacturing unit as part of Spirit of Hope Africa. At first, these women used to cut thick cloths with their bare hands using scissors. But Rachel started fundraising for the Napkin Cutting Machine after seeing minor injuries to her hands while cutting thick cloths. This machine is now sponsored by AV Anoop. The initiative is gaining more attention worldwide and many say it is a great step that inspires many minds.
