SPRINGFIELD -- Returning to the Illinois State Fair to compete in the antiques division of the hobby department for the first time in four years, Kimberly Tarrant came away on Wednesday with three wins and two runner-up finishes from six entries.
Tarrant, a native of Shumway who now resides in Altamont, won blue ribbons for Milk Glass, Berry Set, and Hot Chocolate Set, while taking runner-up honors in Pressed, Colored Glass and Water Set. Her winning pieces were manufactured in 1910, 1898, and 1905, respectively.
Kurt Becker of Altamont had wins in Carnival Glass, Cut Glass, Bride’s Basket, Illinois State Fair Souvenirs, and Pressed, Colored Glass, giving Effingham County a total of eight victories in the hobby department.
In the Division II -- General Department, Textiles, Susie Wurl of Altamont captured 17 first place finishes, two seconds and a third.
